Captain Tamara Nicole Pilblad (2/10/1970-1/22/2021). Tammy passed away on January 22nd, 2021 in Brooklyn, New York. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Marvin Kaplan and Deborah Zelizer Kaplan, and grandparents, Rabbi Nathan and Florence Zelizer and Sam and Sylvia Kaplan. She is survived by her daughter, Lily Florence Pilblad, and her brothers, Gregory (Nuria) Kaplan, Harlan Kaplan, and Randall (Jennifer) Kaplan, her nephews Zachary and Andrew, her niece Zoe, uncle Rabbi Gerald (Viviana) Zelizer, aunt Irma Barbara, cousins Melissa Pacheco, Ivy Neal, and Julian Zelizer, her dog Cornflower, and many friends and extended family. Tammy was born in Columbus, Ohio and attended Columbus Torah Academy, Cassingham Elementary, and graduated from Columbus School for Girls. She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin- Madison, and her J.D. degree from Georgetown Law School. After graduating from law school Tammy served as a captain in the U.S. Army JAG Corps and was stationed in Kaiserslautern, Germany, Ft. Belvoir in Virginia, and at the United States Military Academy at West Point. After receiving an honorable discharge, she worked for several law firms and pursued various business interests. Tammy enjoyed outdoor activities and sports, concerts, reading, her summers at Camp Blue Star in North Carolina and Camp Ramah in Wisconsin, travelling extensively, including her college semester abroad in Paris, yoga retreats to India and Brazil, trips to Israel, Europe and islands in the Caribbean. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her daughter and her dogs. She will be remembered for her creativity, sense of humor, and adventurous spirit.
