Stanley Z. Berry Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Dr. Stanley Z. Berry, age 92, passed away on July 21, 2022, after a lengthy illness. He was born May 10, 1930, to the late Morris and Bertha (Katzman) Berry at Morrisania Hospital (opened for second generation immigrants of Jewish, German, or Irish descents) in New York, NY. He was preceded in death by his wife, Judith Berry, and his brother, Martin Berry. He is survived by his daughter, Karen Berry, of Bolingbrook, IL, son Michael (Debbie) Berry of Westerville and two grandsons, David of Columbus and Carlos of Pittsburgh, PA. Dr. Berry’s academic career in horticulture began at Stuyvesant High School in New York, NY, where he was an honor student and a member of Arista, receiving a scholarship to Cornell University. He pursued his M.S. at the University of New Hampshire, followed by a Ph.D. at the University of California-Davis in 1957. He was first employed by the Campbell’s Soup Company in Camden, New Jersey then began teaching and performing research in Horticulture and Plant Pathology, first at the University of California-Davis and then at The Ohio State University, where he retired in 1995 from the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center in Wooster, Ohio. Dr. Berry and his family resided in Wooster, Ohio until the passing of his wife then relocated to the Wesley Glen Community in Columbus, Ohio. A graveside service will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 24th at New Tifereth Israel Cemetery, 2565 Performance Way, Columbus.
