Shirley Yates-Singer
March 3, 1925 - June 1, 2021
Shirley Yates-Singer, age 96, of Lewis Center, OH and Tequesta, FL, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2021. She was preceded in death by her parents David and Ruth Gittleman, her sister Silvia Bratcher, her husbands, Raymond Yates and Laurence Singer, her son Stephen Yates and her daughter Neva Yates. Shirley is survived by her sister Mildred Carpena (Jamie), her sons Raymond Yates (Kay) and Frederick Yates (Patricia), daughter-in-law Jayne Yates, 6 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cherished friends. Born in New Brunswick, NJ, Shirley attended New Brunswick High School. She and her husband Raymond raised their family in New Brunswick. She worked for Ethicon, a division of Johnson & Johnson, for 30 years where she made surgical sutures. They always loved Florida so, after retiring, they moved to Riviera Beach, where they ran a lawn cutting business until her husband passed. Shirley became a “demo lady” at her local Costco...”the best one there”, she claimed...no doubt. She had the gift of gab. Shirley loved to travel and dine out, which she enjoyed with her second husband, Larry, who she met at Costco. Her favorite food was spaghetti. Her favorite color was royal blue. Going to the theatre was a joy to her. She loved movies and the Hallmark Channel was always on at home. She knew every actors’ name. She was a very talented knitter and crocheter. Bowling, Silver Sneakers and “yoga on the beach” were also favorites of hers and she participated until she was 90. Both of Shirley’s husbands were veterans of WWII. In lieu of flowers or gifts, please make a donation in her name to a military or veteran charity of your choice. Shirley was a patriot from the greatest generation and made many donations to service organizations. God Bless
