Sanford B. Sanford passed away peacefully early Friday morning, March 27, 2015 at the age of 87. Sandy lived a full and blessed life. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio the eldest of three boys. Sandy spoke fondly of his modest upbringing with his loving parents and brothers in Cleveland and Springfield, Ohio. He attended Springfield High School and The Ohio State University. A lifelong Buckeye fan and Sigma Apha Mu member, he graduated with a BS in Business Administration. In between his college years, he served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II as a chaplain. Sandy put his education to work as a true entrepreneur owning numerous, diverse, businesses including Sanford Drug, North American Paper Company, Signal Leasing, Broadcast Video Corp. and Curtis Duplication. He served on numerous boards and associations both in Columbus and at his part time residence in Florida, including long-term service as a trustee of Temple Israel. Sandy is preceded in death by his parents, Bertha and Samuel Schechter, and brothers Dr. Edmond Schecter and Morton Schechter. Sandy is survived by his wife of 28 years, Marcia Sanford, his children, Richard Sanford of Dublin, OH, Ruth Bank (Randy Bank) of New Albany, OH, Robert Sanford of Gahanna, OH, Aaron Sigall (Terri Sigall) of Jacksonville, FL, and Rachel Friedman of New Albany, OH and his grandchildren Davis, Lena, and Miles Friedman, Hannah Bank, and Aden Sigall. Funeral services will be held at 2:30pm on Monday, March 30 at TEMPLE ISRAEL, 5419 E. Broad St. with Rabbi Misha Zinkow officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn – Temple Israel section. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at Temple Israel. Shiva will be observed at the Sanford residence on Monday from 7-9pm and Tuesday from 6:30 – 8:30pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to Zusman Hospice at Wexner Heritage Village, 1151 College Ave. Columbus 43209 or Temple Israel, 5419 East Broad St., Columbus 43213.
