Robert Alan Mickler, born September 17, 1957 in Columbus, Ohio, passed away October 10, 2014 in Nanaimo, British Columbia Canada. Preceded in death by parents Barbara Mickler and Alan Mickler, and grandparents Rose and Sol Zell and Anne and Harry Mickler. Survived by wife, Elaine Mickler and her children Forrest (Jill) Gainer and their daughter Sage, and Aspen Gainer (Luke Gabriel). Also his sister, Wendy (Ernie) Grindstaff and nieces and nephews Sara Grindstaff, Megan (Phil) Sisson and their children Reid, Claire, and Molly, and Eric Grindstaff. Rob was a 1975 graduate of Bexley High School and a 1979 graduate of Indiana University, where he was a member of the IU Marching Hundred. His love of science and the outdoors led Rob to always live in beautiful places. From Red Lodge, Montana, where he spent 16 years working for the Stillwater Mining Company to the Gulf Coast to the Pacific Northwest. From gorgeous plateaus and mountain lakes to combing for oysters and listening to sea dogs, Rob was always surrounded by the things and people he loved. He was always at peace as part of the natural world. The family thanks the Nanaimo Community Hospice for the loving care they gave him at the end of his journey. A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 14, 12 noon at Congregation Beth Tikvah. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Zusman Hospice or the charity of your choice.
