Paul I. Sharfin

June 20, 1937 - March 28, 2022

Paul Ivan Sharfin, age 84, passed away peacefully in his home on Monday, March 28, 2022. Preceded in death by his parents Arty and Sylvia (Firester) Sharfin and brother Roy Sharfin. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Myra Sharfin; daughter Phyllis (Joel) Kingsley, son Ira (Meghan Cook) Sharfin; 8 granddaughters Sara (Greg) Bennett, Blaire (Kory) Cutler, Emily Kingsley, Samantha, Avery, Lane, Milly and Remy Sharfin; and great-granddaughter Mila Bennett; sister-in-laws Harriet Burack and Sharon Rosenthal. A special thanks to Kisha Davis for being a special care giver for the past 1.5 years. Paul’s family was the most cherished part of his life. Paul enjoyed attending countless number of his granddaughters’ games, recitals and concerts. He could raise your spirits with a smile and his laughter was contagious. Paul was born June 20, 1937 in the Bronx, NY. His family moved to Brooklyn soon after, and Coney Island became home. Paul graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1955 and then attended Long Island Community College where he received a degree in civil engineering. He moved to California in 1957 to work for the Army Corps of Engineers. He returned to Brooklyn in 1959 and met his future wife Myra Kershaw on a blind date. Paul enlisted in the Marines in 1960 and was stationed in Camp LeJeune in North Carolina. He and Myra married July 30, 1961, in New York. He began working for S.S. Silverblatt Construction Company. One of the projects he was assigned to was the new Columbus, Ohio main post office on Twin Rivers Drive. Paul felt Columbus would be a great place to start his own construction company, so he and Myra moved their family to Ohio in 1965. They started M&P Construction Company and spent over 40 years building schools, offices, healthcare facilities and many other projects throughout central Ohio. Paul worked hard building M&P, usually arriving at the office at 5:00 am. Most Saturdays he would drive to job sites simply to check in with the crews. Paul helped many people in the construction industry over the years, including Joel and Phyllis who eventually took over the company. He and Myra loved to travel with family and friends. Marco Island, Florida was a favorite destination. Paul loved sports: stickball, handball, tennis and many others. His best sport was racquetball, and he won several local tournaments before a series of back operations sidelined him. He enjoyed playing golf, especially after Myra decided to take up the sport. Funeral services will take place at 11:00 am on Wednesday, March 30, at Temple Israel, 3100 East Broad St., Columbus. Interment will follow at New Temple Israel Cemetery. The family will welcome friends and family for lunch and Kaddish from 1:00 - 3:00 pm at Jefferson Country Club, 7271 Jefferson Meadows Drive, Blacklick. Shiva will be held on Wednesday and Thursday from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Jefferson Country Club. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Temple Israel www.templeisrael.org or the American Kidney Fund at www.kidneyfund.org
