Marvin A. Schlezinger, born December 10, 1927 in Columbus, OH, died October 8, 2012 in Irvine, CA. Preceded in death by his parents, Lucille and Louis Schlezinger; brother, Clifford Schlezinger and brother-in-law, Leonard Schottenstein. He is survived by his sister, Ellen Schottenstein; many nieces and nephews, Howard (Linda) Schottenstein, Debbie (Barry) Adelman, Susie (Brad) Blair, Karin (Marc) Swissman of Maryland, Rick (Wendy) Shottenstein of Israel, Clifford Charles Schlezinger (Sandi) Cantor of Kansas, Lauren (Mark) Fasbinder of Kansas, Dr. Michael (Tammi) Cantor of Massachusetts, Dr. Bruce (Susan) Cantor of Minnesota, Dale Daniels of Colorado, Sandi (David) Gottlieb of California, Debbie Molina of California, Patty (Steve) Phelps of Texas and Dr. Allan (Lael) of Texas and Marvin's best friends the 3 amigo's, Micky (Sylvia) Roth and the late, David Daniels. Marvin attended Bexley schools and was graduated from Bexley High in 1945 and The Ohio State University in 1949. As a Buckeye, Marvin majored in Business with an emphasis in accounting, which in later years guided him toward a career as a CPA and Examiner with the Internal Revenue Service. A friend to many, he also was a proud 32nd Degree Mason. Marvin’s grandfather founded I.H. Schlezinger and Sons in 1905, and that business framed his childhood memories with visits to the scrap yard. In 1952, after a stint in Europe with the Army, Marvin went back to working full-time in the family business. In 1961, Marvin moved to Southern California, where he worked for the IRS for 32 years. He became a fan of the then California Angels and often traveled to Arizona for Angels Spring Training camp. Marvin traveled the world with the love of his life the late, Florrie Silver, visiting more than 25 countries, but one of his favorite destinations was Columbus, Ohio, where he could be found enjoying the tastes of home at Rubino’s, Tommy’s and White Castle. Friends and family members soon learned to not call when The Ohio State Buckeyes were on television in Southern California. There are so many people to thank for making Marv’s last days easier in California including neighbor Debbie Addy, cousin, Lois Daniels and caregiver, Ador Abella. Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Tuesday, October 16th at THE EPSTEIN MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 3232 E. Main St. with Rabbi Michael Ungar officiating. Burial will follow at New Tifereth Israel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to The Hebrew Congregation of St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands or Congregation Tifereth Israel.
