Manne’ Eckstein Aronovsky, age 83, passed away December 17, 2016 in Columbus, Ohio. Preceded in death by mother and father Hedwig and Baruch Eckstein, sister and brother-in-law Felicia and Hymie Mendelson, and former husband Alvin J. Aronovsky (Lt. Col., Ret). Born in Antwerp, Belgium on April 8, 1933 and arrived in NYC in 1946 after fleeing her homeland during WWII. Attended Brooklyn College, later receiving her BA from Ohio Dominican College and MA from the Ohio State University. Served as librarian at Bishop Hartley High School for 21 years and Congregation Tifereth Israel for seven years. Taught Hebrew School in many states and in Europe, and was the founding director of the Jewish Teacher Resource Center in Columbus. Visited Israel numerous times, and spoke to many groups and schools about her experience escaping the Holocaust. A lifelong learner, she attended lectures and classes all her life, loved all kinds of music and subscribed to the Columbus Symphony for many years. She was an avid mah jongg player and thus made many lifelong friends. She is survived by children James (Beverley), San Diego, CA; Linda Aronovsky Cox, Austin, TX; Samuel (Kimberly), Pine Grove, CA; Sara Livingston (Steve), Columbus, OH; Miriam Berk (Rabbi Arye), Columbus, OH. Also, her grandchildren, Danyelle Carr (Bill), Joshua Aronovsky, Rachel Livingston, Becca Mickey (Corey), Pnina Berk, Hallie Cox, Shai Berk, Shoshan Berk, and great-grandchildren, Chase Scheibeck and Audrey Carr. Funeral services will be held at Epstein Memorial Chapel, 3232 E Main St, Columbus on Monday at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Congregation Tifereth Israel Camp Ramah Fund or Zusman Hospice (whv.org/give).
