Jean Mellman

November 26, 1923 - December 7, 2020

Jean (Robins) Mellman, age 97, passed away on December 7, 2020. She was born, November 26, 1923 in Columbus, OH to the late Bluma and Harry Robins. Preceded in death by her husbands, David Handler and David Mellman; children, Diane Lowy and Richard Handler and siblings, Max Robins, Louis Robins and Gus Turner. Jean is survived by her loving children, Harvey (Shelley) Handler of Columbus, Joni (Steve) Wasserman of Carefree, AZ and son-in-law, Louis Lowy of Columbus. She is also survived by her 11 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren whom she referred to as her “Peaches.” They lovingly called her “Plane” Grandma and GG. She will be remembered by many nieces and nephews whom she loved. Jeanie as her close friends called her, was a proud graduate of South High School and was on the 1941 Homecoming Court. She was a lifelong member of Congregation Tifereth Israel and was past President of B’nai B’rith. Jean was the true Matriarch of the Robins-Handler family. She would light up any room or occasion with her inner and outer beauty. She was always dressed to perfection. Jean was a true and loyal friend and a loving caring daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother. We will always cherish our Friday night Shabbat dinners with Jean’s famous matzah ball soup and “dirty” vegetable soup. Jean lived at The Cottages at the Wexner Heritage House for the past year and a half. Her family would like to recognize some of the wonderful staff who cared for her with so much love during this time: Laurie, Angie, Angela, Phyllis, Shasa, Natalie, Carol and Chris Christensen. A special mention to Jettie Bell who was also there for her. Please know that she loved all of you. Private graveside services will be held at 3pm TODAY, December 8 at New Agudas Achim Cemetery. Contributions in Jean’s memory can be made to either Wexner Heritage House at www.whv.org or to the Vilma Linder Fund at Congregation Tifereth Israel at www.tiferethisrael.org To view a recording of the service please follow this link: https://us02web.zoom.us/rec/share/ov9gM8DiH-vzi-IN3nICW7LyIguiasKB1jnqw4D4DdaqS8tHRo-kQC87Oxcxh0pC.jpSr_gZ-o2tY6MMc
