Janis Mathless Obituary (1923 - 2017)

Janis Mathless, 94, died February 20, 2017 at Wexner Heritage Village. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Norman Mathless, daughter Judith/Yehudit Blauser, parents Benjamin and Sadie Schottestein, siblings June Stone, Helen Paulson, and Neal Schottenstein. She is survived by daughter, Diane Warren (Jim); son, Dan Mathless (Shery); grandchildren, Don/Dov (Suzanne) and Lori Schwarz, Rachel Warren (Madeleine), Gabriel (Stephanie) and Stephanie (Paul) Mathless; great grandchildren, Jack, Jana, Sadie, Ben and David; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. We will all miss her dearly. Lifelong member of Agudas Achim, Janis was active in Sisterhood, Hadassah and B'nai B'rith. Always gracious, she was a devoted wife and mother. She was tenacious in her beliefs and lived her life accordingly. An enthusiastic bridge player, she also played tennis until her knees gave out, continued college classes into her 70's, traveled whenever possible, made sure family came first and no matter what, she was always beautiful. Funeral service will be held at Epstein Memorial Chapel, 3232 E. Main St., Columbus, Sunday, February 26 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers and in respect to the many nurses and aides that worked so hard to insure Janis' comfort, memorial donations may be made to Wexner Heritage House, Zusman Hospice or the charity of choice.
