Helene Spitz Lehv

June 10, 1941 - February 11, 2022

Helene Spitz Lehv, passed away February 11th, 2022 in Columbus, Ohio surrounded by her loving family. Helene was born in Brooklyn, New York on June 10th, 1941 and graduated cum laude from the Berkeley Carroll School in 1959. She attended Mt. Holyoke College until an illness interrupted her studies. She graduated from NYU in 1965 and was a recipient of the Founders Day Award. She went on to pursue a career in accounting, obtaining a both a BA in accounting from Franklin University and a Masters in Taxation from Capital Law School in Columbus. Helene was a devoted leader in the Columbus Jewish Community. She was deeply committed to a variety of charitable causes, including Wexner Heritage Village and the Jewish Community Center, in which the lobby’s gift shop was dedicated in honor of her parents, Mary A. and Henry A. Spitz. She was most passionately involved with the Columbus Jewish Foundation, serving on its Executive Committee as treasurer and assistant secretary, and its Board of Directors from 1989-2003, an explosive period of growth in which the Foundation’s assets grew more than six-fold. She was also a past president of Columbus B’nai Brith Women. While she had a long and distinguished career as an accountant, her greatest source of pride was her family. She was a very devoted daughter to her parents and sister to her only sibling Barbara Spitz Davis. Her children and her grandchildren and her nieces and nephews were the lights of her life. She delighted in sharing their life events and kvelled over their accomplishments. Helene is survived by her son Anthony Lehv and his wife Robin Gross, her son Spencer and his wife June Lehv, her grandchildren Benjamin, Marissa, Addeson and Amelia Lehv. She is also survived by her loving nieces and nephews, Leslie Davis (Mary Beth Wiles), Barry Davis (Kathy), and Hollis, Peter and Clara Lehv, her adopted son Hung Stephen Dang and her great-nephew Jordan Davis. She was predeceased by her loving parents Henry A. Spitz and Mary Spitz and her beloved sister Barbara. Her funeral took place in New York on February 14th. Donations in Helene's memory can be made to the Henry A and Mary A Spitz Endowment for the benefit of Jewish Education at the Columbus Jewish Foundation 1175 College Avenue Columbus, OH 43209 https://jewishcolumbus.org/give-to-an-established-fund/
