February 2, 1959 - October 19, 2011
Galia Keny, 52, of Columbus Ohio passed away at her home on Wednesday October 19, 2011. She was born in Tel-Aviv, Israel to Henia and Israel Manis and served in the Israeli Army’s Intelligence Department prior to moving to the United States in 1980. Galia earned an Associate Degree in Nursing from Otterbein College and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Ohio State University. She worked as an obstetrics nurse at The Ohio State University Hospital for over 20 years where, as charge nurse in Labor and Delivery, she made history by leading the unit through their busiest day ever, safely delivering 26 babies in 24 hours. Galia’s great love of her work was expressed in the devotion with which she served her patients, side by side with her fellow nurses and physicians. Galia was married for 13 years to her dear and lifelong friend, James M. Keny, with whom she had four beautiful children. She was recently married to William Brown for two years. Galia cherished her children and was fiercely loyal to her family and friends. She took tremendous pleasure in being by the ocean, dancing, and music, and was a passionate and joyful woman. Galia was preceded in death by her father, Israel Manis. She is survived by her beloved mother Henia Manis, her children Tara R. Keny, Mason A. Keny, Cory J. Keny, Audrey J. Keny, cousins Orna, Uval, and Hannah, and her nieces and nephews. There will be a private graveside service for family at Green Lawn Cemetery and visitors are welcome after 1:00 pm on Monday October 24th at 948 Jaeger Street in German Village. The family will be sitting Shiva on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Galia’s honor to the Alzheimer’s Disease Fund in Neurology, The Ohio State University (Fund #302185).
