Florence Holzer

Florence Holzer, age 105 and devoted wife and mother, passed away on February 22, 2017. Her parents, Abraham and Rebecca Luper; husband, Charles Holzer in 1972; and sister, Sara Wolfson in 2005 preceded her in death. She is survived by her son, Tom (Donna) Holzer, first cousins Annette Schwartz and Faye (Sanford) Lichtenstein; niece and nephews, Mike (Linda) Wolfson, Charles (Nancy) Wolfson, Sharon (Gary) Blum; many great and great-great nieces and great and great-great nephews; and many loving, caring, and adoring family members and friends. Florence began working behind the counter of her father’s bakery and graduated from Ohio State University in 1934. For several years during World War II, Florence did clerical work at Sheppard Field, Wichita Falls, Texas. Later and prior to being married in 1953, she went to work doing statistics at Lazarus Department Store. Florence was a very active volunteer at Mt. Carmel East with over 9000 hours of service. She was a long-time member of Tifereth Israel, an avid Scrabble player and lover of chocolate. First and foremost, Florence was always there for those who needed her. Funeral services will be held at 12:30pm on Friday, February 24 at Epstein Memorial Chapel, 3232 E. Main St. Interment will follow at New Tifereth Israel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred in her memory to the Geraldine Schottenstein Cottage for Memory Care or Zusman Hospice at Wexner Heritage Village.
