Ettagail Shatz Obituary (1935 - 2020)

Ettagail Benyas Shatz, born in 1935 in Detroit, Michigan, passed away peacefully with her family at her side, at home in Columbus, Ohio on July 26, 2020, after a short battle with cancer. She graduated from Mumford High School and went on to study at The Ohio State University where she met the love of her life A. Jack Shatz. They were married in 1954 and soon after Jack graduated, they left Ohio for Jack’s time in the US Air Force. They eventually settled in Lancaster, Ohio where Ettagail was a homemaker and became involved in several civic and Jewish organizations. She was an avid golfer, having played in two pro-am tournaments and she enjoyed bridge. Being together with family and close friends was most important to her. Having returned to Ohio from Florida, Jack and Ettagail joined Congregation Tifereth Israel. Ettagail is survived by her husband of sixty-five years, Jack Shatz, children Alan (Sara) Shatz, Steve Shatz, and Lisa (Harvey) Sukienik. Grandchildren Tonia (Jeff) Levison, Aaron (Becca Sigal) Shatz, Cameron Shatz, Gary (Richelle) Sukienik, Zachary Sukienik, and Talia Sukienik. Great grandchildren are Sophia, Meira, Reuven, Eliyahu, and Miriam Levison. Brother Donald (Florine Mark) Benyas and sister-in-law Shirley Benyas. Ettagail was preceded in death by her parents, Saul and Pearl (Weber) Benyas and her brother Robert Benyas. The graveside service was held at the new Tifereth Israel cemetery on Monday, July 27, 2020.
