Carol Lee Freeman Axelrod Obituary (2007)

Carol Lee Freeman Axelrod, devoted mother and “Noni,” age 77, of Dublin, Ohio, died peacefully on September 26, 2007 at Emerald Crossing. Mrs. Axelrod was born April 12, 1930 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to the late Carolyn (Sachse) and Leo Freeman. She spent her early life in Baton Rouge and attended Louisiana State University for two years. She completed her degree at the University of Oklahoma where she met “the most eligible bachelor on campus,” the late Charles D. Axelrod. Carol and Charles were married in 1950 in Baton Rouge and enjoyed 54 years of marriage. They resided briefly in Cincinnati and then in Wilmington, Ohio for almost 40 years. There, she earned her teaching certificate from Wilmington College and taught art in the Sabina and Wilmington School Districts for 35 years. Carol was an accomplished artist and an avid collector of antique dolls. She traveled extensively with Charles, visiting, among other places, Russia, China and Spain. Carol had an exuberant heart with a limitless capacity for love and for making new friends. She is survived by her three children and their spouses, David F. Axelrod, Esq. (Lisabeth) of Westerville, Ohio, Cathleen Nardo (Nick) of Plainfield, New Jersey and Terri (Lynn) Nafziger of Dublin, Ohio, and three beautiful grandchildren, Sarah Axelrod, and Alex and Bradley Nafziger. Her children wish to thank Emerald Crossing and Odyssey Hospice for their kindness, care and support. Memorial services will be held on October 6th at 1:30 pm at the Fisher-Edgington Funeral Home in Wilmington, Ohio and at Temple Israel in Columbus, Ohio on Sunday, October 7th at 1:00 pm. Carol will be inurned at a later date, with Charles, in the columbarium at Arlington National Cemetery.
