Bernard Rubinstein
September 14, 1920 - December 4, 2012
Bernard Rubinstein passed away quietly in the early hours of December 4, 2012 in Columbus, Ohio. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on September 14, 1920, to Sarah and Henry Rubinstein, graduated from James Madison High and from Brooklyn College with a degree in economics. A WWII Army veteran, he married Selma August in 1944; she predeceased him by five months. He is survived by three children, Jessica (Michael Mercier), Henry, and Shira (Eric Schectman); two grandsons, Andrew Hollweck (Bomi Kim) and Aaron Mercier; two great granddaughters, Min and Bea Hollweck. He is predeceased by his brother, Sholom, and sister, Betty Esner. In his early career, Bernie produced and directed Jewish radio programming, notably the Jewish Caravan of Stars on WMGM in New York. He grew his audio recording and production studio, Cue Recordings, to be a standard resource for commercial and voice narrative audio, retiring from Cue in the 1980s. He remained an avid tennis player into his 80s. He left behind many friends when he moved from his home of 60 years in Queens, NY, but was happy in the warmth of the new community he found in Columbus. A Memorial Service in his honor at Creekside at the Village is planned for January. Contributions in his memory can be made to Wexner Heritage Village.
